While Step By Step Pediatrics had utilized digital time tracking for quite some time, the company’s legacy system was antiquated – it tracked time, and that’s it.
“If an employee missed a punch, or if something was wrong, the individual would have to submit a correction on a piece of paper – a process that took some time to sort out,” said Melanie Rowls, practice manager, Step By Step Pediatrics.
The time tracking system did not offer a way to manage PTO, thus employees were asked to submit their time off requests manually, creating a chaotic situation for the company’s HR team.
“Employees would constantly come in and ask how many hours they have remaining,” said Rowls. “I’d print reports, discuss each employee’s time off, and then confirm the hours. If something had to be changed, the reports would need to be updated and reprinted. It was a bulky, time-consuming process.”
In search of a better solution, Rowls connected with a number of associations and like-minded companies, asking how they each track time. The name “OnTheClock” continued to come up.
“We brought OnTheClock on and did the free trial,” said Rowls. “While we were running the trial, we compared all of OnTheClock’s features to our previous time tracking software. In the end, OnTheClock worked better.”
Rowls no longer has to hunt down employees to confirm time off requests. With OnTheClock’s comprehensive PTO function, employees can look up how much time they’ve used and how much is left with just a few clicks.
“We’re able to see who’s in, who’s on break, and who’s taken extended breaks,” said Rowls. “Everything is housed in one place, on one program, making it easy and convenient to monitor our staff.”
