Shawn Holdt is the owner of Prestige Plumbing, located in Oahu, Hawaii. He is a licensed master plumber with 20+ years of experience. He has a goal of expansion for the business and building out a system for inventory.
Shawn stated, "As a small shop for a while, it was just one guy and me or maybe two of us. I would ask what hours were at the end of the week and process payroll myself". As the employee count started to grow, he realized he needed something to track the hours his employees were putting in. This transition had to be easy, and it needed to save time.
Shawn tried four or five other apps and concluded that the system needed to be simple to use, straightforward, and have an interface that he liked. Other apps offered various options, but none really struck a chord with Shawn. He said, "Honestly, I'm the kind of guy where I need to try it. It doesn't matter what you tell me, is it gonna fit me? Does it work for me?” He searched in the GooglePlay store for 'simple time clock apps' and even "easy time clock apps" to narrow the search for his number one requirement for everyone, ease of use.
"I don't like things with a ton of features I get lost in," said Shawn. A variable in the search was finding a solution that offered features that would streamline and save time but not be overbearing, making the use of the product over complicated and hard to follow.
Shawn had recently hired an office manager and knew he needed to relinquish some of his duties. These duties included keeping up with time tracking and payroll processing. He needed a system that would allow his office manager to quickly and easily access timesheets for processing and make necessary adjustments. "Sometimes the guys forget to clock in and out, which is always an issue," Shawn mentioned.

Shawn tested the system with one main employee to start to see how it would work. "It's simple. There are no other things the employees need to do other than clock in and out," said Shawn. To make lunch breaks less of a hassle for the employees, they added auto-deducted breaks eliminating the need to remember to clock in and out for lunch. The system looks at the duration and time you set and does it for you. Shawn says, "GPS is really awesome" because, at times, they need to meet outside of the shop. GPS offers accountability for Shawn and his teams to show they arrived on site these days. "My office manager logs in, and the timecards are all right there. It's easy to decipher, and it makes payroll easy." Having everything all in one place when collecting time cards for payroll helps streamline the process and saves money. Shawn found the features that best fit his needs without feeling overwhelmed."I felt like this is gonna work, this is simple enough, and the fees were not outrageous, and the overall cost is fair for what it does," he said.
